Recorded
live at The Misfits Nightclub, Chicago, Illinois, September 1981.
Early
80's funky, demented raw punk/jazz from New York Ciy's maestro of the
New Wave. A superb live concert recording, mastered by James Chance. "In
September 1981, ROIR released its very first title ROIR A-100 on cassette
only: James Chance and the Contortions "Live in New York". We recorded
it on a four-track Dorkorder at my nightclub in NYC "The 80's" and at
Jim Fouratt's "Peppermint Lounge" Golden Days of the New Wave in NYC,
I certainly miss them." - Neil Cooper
At
the time, Chance was the hottest thing going in NYC. He had appeared on
Island's "No New York" album produced by Brian Eno. That album also premiered
Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, DNA and Mars.
"...if
you dig musicians who are not only excited about playing their instruments,
but can do so (and in unconventional manners even by today's standards)
- if you enjoy listening to albums where the whole is greater then the
individual pieces, which are each singularly of much merit - or if you're
ready to discover a tried and true musical "alternative" - then you'll
want to take this Chance and run with it. " - B-Side
