In 1984 ROIR,
then a cassette-only record label, released a LIVE
cassette-only European concert tape by Einsturzende
Neubauten ("Collapsing New Buildings"). E/N's "2 x 4" has
become a classic, receiving both lavish praise from the
press and commercial success from its legions of fans (over
20,000 cassettes sold). Available now for the first time on
CD (remastered).
Since 1980
these conceptual avant-garde anti-artists have released over
twenty recordings on labels such as Mute, Some Bizarre,
Rough Trade, Thirsty Ear, Homestead, Etc. Their newest
studio recording "Ende Nue" has just come out in Germany on
Rough Trade and will be released in the U.S. by Nothing
Records early in 1998 in connection with an extensive U.S.
tour.
"Far and
away the most listenable recording from the premiere
noisests. Almost as riveting as seeing them in person." - Rockpool 1985
"2 x 4
documents German noise terrorists Einsturzende Neubauten in
their most nightmarish and nihilistic form - live. The sheer
intensity of Neubauten's unconventional outpourings is the
aural equivalent of waking up sweating in the middle of the
night, wracked with doubt and fear, with Blixa Bargeld's
disembodied voice agonising over a backdrop of tense musical
extremities. Sensory exorcism guaranteed." - Kerrang
"...capturing
the group during their most elemental phase, when
improvisations were the rule and the triumph of the
non-musician was complete. Its admixture of noise and quiet
captures the Berlin group in all their utter visceral
starkness. Absolutely essential." - Wire
UK
"These
legendary 'godfathers' of industrial have influenced
everyone from Nine Inch Nails and Ministry. For those of you
that know and love this band then you need to have this to
complete your collection. For those of you who don't know of
these industrial pioneers then you definitely need this to
discover where ol' Mr. Reznor stole all his ideas from."
- Faze 3
