As a world class bass player and producer, Laswell has worked with Afrika Bambaataa, Bachir Attar, Bernie Worrell, Blind Idiot God, Bootsy Collins, Fela Kuti, Foday Musa Suso, George Clinton, Ginger Baker, Gil-Scott Heron, Herbie Hancock, Henry Threadgill, Iggy Pop, James Blood Ulmer, Maceo Parker, Laurie Anderson, Mandingo, Manu Dibango, Material, Last Exit, Mick Jagger, Motorhead, Nicky Skopelitis, Peter Brotzman, Praxis, Ronald Shannon Jackson, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Sly and Robbie, Sonny Sharrock, Swans, Last Poets, Yellowman, Yoko Ono, Brian Eno, Golden Palominos, John Zorn, Painkiller, Peter Gabriel, and remixed albums by Santana, Bob Marley and Miles Davis. "Book Of Exit", in essence Chapter 4 in Laswell's ongoing series of Dub Chamber and Sacred System albums, is a departure from the rib-rattling bass workouts of his previous 3 ROIR releases. Retaining many Dub elements, "Book of Exit" charts new territory by melding a female vocalist into the mix. Come meet the band: Ejigayehu Shibabaw, better known as "GiGi," is truly a siren. She hails from Ethiopia and recently released the Laswell-produced "GiGi" on Palm Pictures to wide-spread critical acclaim and strong sales. On "Book Of Exit" GiGi is provided with a more vast sonic landscape upon which to wander. Her voice clearly benefits, melding brilliantly with the heavy percussive elements and captivating the listener with its richness and striking beauty. Karsh Kale, has come to prominence with two Solo releases for Six Degrees and playing with Talvin Singh and with Laswell's Tabla Beat Science Project. Aiyb Dieng is an established force at percussion playing with Manu Dibango, Lori Carson, Ginger Baker, Bachir Attar, Blind Light to name a few.
