Shepard Fairey has designed a silkscreen print of Darryl Jenifer, bassist of legendary hardcore band, Bad Brains. A limited edition of 175 signed copies is now available at the Bad Brains Official Store.
Fairey’s homage to Darryl comes on the heels of Jenifer’s first solo album “In Search of Black Judas”, which was released to critical acclaim a few months back. This is the second print Fairey has designed of the band, who the cult street artist states is “one of [his] favorite punk/hardcore groups of all time”.
This 15×23 silkscreened print based on a photograph by Atiba Jefferson is now available exclusively at the Bad Brains Official Store. 175 of the prints are signed by both Darryl Jenifer and Shepard Fairey and each print also comes with a digital download of an unreleased Darryl Jenifer track. Limited to one per customer.

Even though our Bad Brains album isn’t an unofficial bootleg and we certainly don’t consider it a “Lost” album, we’re pretty stoked to read Dave Grohl talk about the Bad Brains S/T on NME’s 100 Great Lost Albums!
The Bad Brains studio albums are great, but for me ‘ROIR’, this unofficial bootleg, comes closest to capturing their live sound on tape. I was living in DC in the early ’80S and got into the hardcore scene, but nobody else blew me away as much as Bad Brains. I’ll say it now, I have never ever, ever, ever, ever seen a band do anything even close to what Bad Brains used to do live. Seeing them live was, without a doubt, always one of the most intense, powerful experiences you could ever have. They were just… Oh God, words fail me… incredible. They were connected in a way I’d never seen before.
They made me absolutely determined to become a musician, they basically changed my life, and changed the lives of everyone who saw them. Rage Against The Machine are about the only band who get near to them, but even they aren’t in the same league.
Bad Brains are one of those bands where everyone who’s ever heard them live has come away with a real extreme reaction, one of either love or hate. I loved ‘em. The fact that there were four black guys coming on to a predominately white scene that they then just surpassed and absolutely destroyed with everything they did, just staggered you.
This is as close as I’ve heard to a record capturing that.

Winter is upon us… and will be for the next 3 months, UGH. I don’t know about you, but I’m already sick of it. The only thing you can really do is do your best to keep warm. We at ROIR have resolved to help you out with this, with our winter gear sale!
Not only do we have new Bad Brains beanies, we also brought in three new Bad Brains tees. The classic Capitol Building shirt is available in the womens’ medium in both black & yellow, as is our new Pay to Cum design.
I know we’re kvetching about the cold, but our friends in the Great White North have it worse! It’s at least 10 degrees colder there, oooh wee! To make the winter cold a little easier for our Canadian friends, we’re offering FREE SHIPPING to CANADA until January 24.
The bass player for pioneering hardcore band Bad Brains, Daryl Jenifer fuses his old bands gritty, grinding approach with electronic rhythms and disembodied vocal snatches for his first solo outing, In Search of Black Judas. That it pulls from reggae, too, is no surprise: Bad Brains always had a healthy amount of Rasta in their punk, the only difference is that, on Black Judas, that influence is more pronounced. The record is conceptual: the songs bleed together, most of them build from sinewy, searching bass lines, topped with patches of static and sporadic LED blips. Jenifer’s voice is low and mysterious, and in the end, Black Judas feels more like a sonic collage than a proper rock record, each song sliding into the next, burbling like the Dagobah swamp. It’s a strange, fascinating journey – no pop, no style, just strictly roots.
Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer’s debut solo album “In Search of Black Judas” will be in all good record stores this Tuesday. But you can pre-order it now at the Bad Brains Official Store!
It’s available on CD, LP & MP3… and it’s on SALE!
